The Restricted Mind

When applying to Edinburgh University, they asked me to create a short film in response to the word – ‘Work’. I created a story that followed the journey of a student that can only work on other things once he has worked on himself.

In the film, Alejo is stuck with writing an essay, and with the deadline fast approaching, he spends most of that time procrastinating. It is not until he partakes in meditation that he can free his mind and write the essay.

The aspect of this film that I like the most is the long shot, masked to look like one continuous shot it shows the passing of time by the dimming of smart lights. Looking back I disliked the plot. This is something I wanted to change after filming, however, I was diagnosed with Covid and the dealine was before the ending of my isolation. This meant I had to dub the entire film but also work with the footage I had filmed as I couldn’t refilm.

I think I worked well given the context but next time could produce a better film with a more coherent plot.
