Role
Projection Manager, Photographer and Videographer and Editor

Edinburgh Napier’s Student Union organised an International Film Festival to celebrate the diversity of films from around the world. To make this event happen, they asked for volunteers to help out. My main role was as projection manager, but I also worked as a videographer/photographer and managed a team of photographers. This role gave me the chance to dive into all parts of the festival and capture the moments that happened. I also edited a bunch of videos for showing during the festival, including fun recaps of what was happening, introductions to the film screenings, and presentations of the award-nominated films.

Editing these videos was exciting but challenging since it all happened while the festival was going on, creating a busy atmosphere. With a tight deadline, I had to make sure each video looked good and was ready for the audience as they came in to enjoy the films. I worked closely with my team, bouncing ideas off each other and polishing our content on the spot, making the experience even better. Below are some of the videos I created for the event, showcasing the lively atmosphere and talent on display.

Entire event recap: Following the event, I edited a recap video to promote next year’s festival. The video aimed to highlight the different elements of this year’s festival and show the joy participants experienced.

Introduction to the entire festival: This was created to play at the start of the event, showcasing the entire selection of films and providing information about the films submitted. The aim was colour and energy, to try and build excitement for the days ahead.

Short Intro: Each screening had an intermission; to open the festival again after each intermission the short intro was created to just reset the room. Again, using colours and the same design language.

Day two and three intro: For the start of each screening another volunteer and I edited an introduction of the films being shown that day. The co-editor worked on the montage and then sent it to me to sync to music and export it out.

Awards opening: During the last day, there was an awards ceremony. During the week, I had recorded a lot of footage of the event, which I will edit into a recap video. But I wanted to surprise everyone at the closing ceremony and showcase a montage of videos from the past three days. This was a very quick edit, and the intention was not professionalism but rather a fun, exciting ending. The audience received it well, clapping and cheering when they saw themselves.

Awards Nominations: During all the award announcements the nominations were done by showcasing a montage of each film. This was done to give an idea of what the films in competition looked like. This meant that when the winner’s film was shown afterwards the audience knew what it was up against.

Overall, the role was very intense and demanded quick editing skills in order to deliver all the videos before the events. To meet tight deadlines, I developed efficient workflows that allowed me to prioritize tasks effectively and enhance my productivity. I also took photos and videos during the events, capturing moments that conveyed the atmosphere and energy of each occasion. My ability to work under pressure ensured that all content was polished and ready for distribution in a timely manner. Below are some of the photos, which showcase the highlights and memorable experiences from these events.
