It’s Your Turn

As part of the 2021 BFI Residential, we were tasked with creating a film in a week. We were placed in groups of 6/8. 4 scripts were chosen out of the entire cohort. My script made it.

It’s Your Turn follows the longing felt after losing a loved one; it focuses on the small events that become a big challenge to deal with. This was the first film I had ever written or been a part of producing – except for solo films.

I am extremely proud of many aspects of the film. I do also recognise a vast amount that can be improved. The roles were split between all 8 of us. And we all had a go at each in different parts of the script.

I was camera op for the bedroom scene, cinematographer for half of the kitchen scene, director for the second chess scene and then edited the kitchen scene.

This was an invaluable experience that reinforced the desire I had to do film at university. Without this, I wouldn’t have gone on to study Film at Napier. I learnt so much that I still use to this day.
