Here are my notes on the week 2 films:
Submerine –
- very colourful room at start
- shooting against a wall but still doesn’t look flat
- Water instantly tells a story
- One of the calmest evacuations I’ve ever seen. No sirens or panic
- Very muted colours at the end
- She changes from a bright yellow dress into funeral clothes.
I thought most elements of this film are achievable within our budget and scale. The film uses the form very efficiently to communicate new information. I do think the ending was a bit weak. It built up a lot of suspense for what was to come and then left the viewer in a position of uncertainty.
For example, the dog that comes in at the end. I am unsure if it was meant to be a signal or whatnot. However, it seemed like it didn’t add anything.
